5 Great Rainy Day Activities for Dogs

No matter the weather, dogs need exercise and attention in order to stay healthy and happy. This spring, help your dog beat the rainy day blues with these fun activities

1. Go to the Local Pet Store

On rainy days, delight your dog by taking it to a pet store that allows furry friends. Your dog will love smelling the toys and treats around the store, and it might even get to see some other animals. While you’re there, let your pet pick out a new toy to play with when you return home.

2. Do Some Doga (Dog Yoga)

To keep you and your dog active while indoors, consider trying doga (dog yoga.) In this activity, you’ll incorporate your pooch into traditional yoga poses and relax it with simple massage and reflexology techniques. Much like regular yoga, doing doga will increase the energy, strength, and flexibility of both you and your pet. Doga DVDs are available for purchase online, and many cities are starting to offer in-studio doga sessions.

3. Schedule a Doggy Playdate

When your dog is forced to stay inside due to bad weather, lift its spirits by letting it hang out with one or more of its best four-legged friends. Whether you hold the doggy playdate at your house or somewhere else, your dog will surely enjoy seeing its pal(s).

4. Visit an Indoor Dog Park

When the weather doesn’t allow you to take your pet to the regular dog park, indoor dog parks provide the perfect solution. These fun facilities offer football-sized fields where your dog can roam free with other pets of its size. Some parks even have swimming pools and pet boutiques to entertain your dog on cold, wet days.

5. Pamper Your Pooch

If all else fails, you can beat rainy day boredom by giving your dog some special treatment. Spend quality time with your pet by giving it a bath, brushing it, or trimming its nails.
